Simon Tyler
Finance & Investment
Simon Tyler has spent 35 years in the finance industry, beginning his career in finance at South Pacific Merchant Finance in 1986. When SPMF merged with the National Bank in 1987, he became the Head of Financial Markets for the NBNZ group for seven years, developing in-depth knowledge of the full range of markets. With a team of 25 FX dealers and 20 Money Market and Capital Market dealers, the Financial Markets group produced profits of more than 100 million per annum. When the NBNZ was sold to ANZ in 2004, he joined the Reserve Bank as the Head of Financial Markets at the RBNZ. He was a member of all the key Governors committees, such as the Monetary Policy Committee, Financial System Oversight Committee, and the Governors Senior Management Group. During this time, Simon implemented several reforms in the NZ banking system and for the RBNZ’s Foreign Reserves portfolio. At the time of GFC, he was a vital member of the Governors Crisis Committee, which implemented several emergency banking facilities. In 2012, Simon was approached to become CE of the National Provident Fund and Government Superannuation Fund Authority (GSFA). A holding company, Annuitas Management Limited, manages these funds. At AML, Simon’s small team of 14 staff oversaw the investments and administration of the funding schemes as well as successfully implementing a new administration system for the GSFA and improving the ‘value add’ of the investment portfolios of both funds. Simon finished at Annuitas in late 2022 and has been involved in several governance roles.
